Four more cases of polio raise countrywide total to 257

Three cases were from Peshawar, while one was from South Waziristan Agency

PESHAWAR: Four new polio cases were reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Fata on Thursday, raising the national total for 2014 to 257 cases throughout Pakistan.

Three of the cases confirmed were from Peshawar, while one was from South Waziristan Agency.

An official from the health ministry said the cases were confirmed after being tested at the polio virology laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH).

The official said that of the cases confirmed on Thursday, one of the samples was sent on October 30 and two on November 30, while the sample from South Waziristan was sent on November 1.

The breakdown of the number of polio cases reported provincially so far is; 162 from Fata, 54 from K-P, 26 from Sindh, 12 from Balochistan, and three from Punjab.
