Dangerous construction

Letter November 17, 2014
At night, with no lights around to illuminate the construction site, pedestrians and vehicles both face added danger

KARACHI: This letter is with reference to a building being built near Qalandaria chowk, North Nazimabad, in front of Greenshield Public School in Karachi. The construction of this building has created a lot of problems for the residents of the area. The digging of the street has blocked out half the road and it has become very inconvenient for people to travel on it. In addition, the border around the construction site is not safe. The children of the nearby Iqra Madrassa use that road in the morning as well as in the afternoon and it is highly dangerous for them to be near the site. Vans of Iqra Madrassa and Greensheild Public School travel on that road and an accident could occur any day since they are forcing their way through half a road. Vans also keep using the streets inside the area as an alternative route, which is very disturbing for the residents.

At night, with no lights around to illuminate the construction site, pedestrians and vehicles both face added danger because of the dug-up site. The authorities responsible for carrying out this project are requested to resolve this issue by either creating a firm boundary around the construction site or by blocking the road so that children can be stopped from going near the site.
