Wrestler Asad wins bronze in 80kg event

Handball team defeats Kuwait 2-1 in Asian Beach Games.

KARACHI: Pakistani wrestler Muhammad Asad clinched the bronze medal at the Men’s Freestyle 80kg event of the 4th Asian Beach Games by defeating Kazakhstan’s Bauyrzhan Izbassar 2-0 at the Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand yesterday.

Earlier in the day, Asad defeated Khonekeo Thatthavong of Laos 2-0 in the first match. Munkhjargal Khultee of Mongolia 2-1, Bek Khaldar Uulu of Kyrgyzstan 2-0 and Seyedkamran Hosseinijam of Iran 2-0 to reach the third-play play-off.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan handball team won their second match against a strong Kuwait side by 2-1. Pakistan won the first set 18-12, but lost the close second set by 11-10.

In the last set, Pakistan played brilliantly to win 7-4 and claim the match. Pakistan will now play against Bangladesh on Monday in their third match of group B.

Volleyball national champions Mubashir Raza and Muhammad Razzaq lost the first match against Hong Kong’s Chun Wai Wong and Kam Lung Chui 2-0, while in the second match against Palestine, Pakistan was awarded a 2-0 win as Khaled Alarqan and Abdelrahman Tafesh did not compete in the match.
