PESHAWAR: Two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and six others injured in a terrorist attack on a check post in Orakzai Agency on Tuesday, while 15 militants were killed in retaliatory action.

Militants mounted an attack on the check post located in Shirindara area, however, were effectively repelled.

“More than 50 militants attacked the check post. Two soldiers embraced shahadat while 15 terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire,” a senior security official told AFP.

Soon after the attack, the injured were airlifted to a military hospital as few of them were found to be in critical condition.

Security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation soon.

This was a second attack on check posts in Orakzai in the past four days.

Earlier on November 9, at least 17 militants from the Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) extremist group were killed when security forces successfully fought back an attack on a check post in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency where a security operation, Khyber-I, has been ongoing since mid-October.

Banned outfit Lashkar-e-Islam of Mangal Bagh is the main target of the operation. Bagh has recently directed his gun-toting loyalists for intensifying attacks on security forces and government loyal tribal elders.
