The Wagah tragedy

Letter November 09, 2014
The authorities need to figure out just why, despite a clear warning the attack happened

ISLAMABAD: A daily ceremonial closing of the border between India and Pakistan takes place at the Wagah border ceremony with people sitting on the respective sides of the border enthusiastically watching. On November 2, 60 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up close to where this ceremony takes place. Law enforcement agencies reportedly had been alerted about the possibility of an attack at the border, but nothing was done to prevent it.

The authorities need to review their policies and procedures and figure out just why, despite a clear and specific warning, the attack still happened and so many precious lives lost.
