Forgotten village

Letter October 30, 2014
Chinjani village has not been provided with basic amenities, including gas and water

JOHI: Chinjani is a village located some four kilometers south of the town of Johi in Sindh. It has been forgotten by the government and elected representatives of this constituency. It has a population of 5,000 and it is one of the oldest villages of the Johi taluka, located alongside the road. Unfortunately, it was inundated during the super flood in 2010. Since then, some of the flood affectees are still living in tents in the scorching heat of summer in a miserable condition. The government and NGOs working on shelter projects have been blind to the sufferings of the people of this village. Almost 70 per cent of the residents here are very poor, hence, they cannot afford mud-houses, and are still looking to the government and generous organisations to help them build their houses even today. This village has not been provided with basic amenities, including gas and water.

We demand the higher authorities of the departments concerned and the chief minister of Sindh, along with the education minister and the minister for public works, to please look into the matter and resolve the problems and difficulties of Chinjani, and provide basic amenities to this village, including a package for flood affectees of the super floods of 2010 at the earliest.
