Signal jammers in the assembly

Letter October 30, 2014
Such an expenditure on jammers is strange and totally unwarranted, and a sheer waste of the public money.

RAWALPINDI: Agha Siraj Durrani, the speaker of the Sindh Assembly, according to a news report, has ordered installation of mobile jammers in the Assembly Hall as the cell phones of the members of the august assembly keep ringing thus disturbing the proceedings of the provincial legislature. Such an expenditure on jammers is strange and totally unwarranted, and a sheer waste of the public money. I do not believe our honourable MPAs are that uncouth and uncivilised not to know that cell phones ought to be kept in ‘silent’ mode during indoor gatherings, assemblies, lectures, prayers and other similar occasions.

Why waste so much money under such a frivolous expense? If at all someone does not abide by this civilised code of conduct, what are the Sergeants-at-Arms provided to the assemblies for?
