Pakistan — a country all alone

Letter October 16, 2014
All our political parties, the establishment, the armed forces and the government must act in unison at this time

NAUSHEHRO FEROZE: At this critical juncture, when Pakistan is plagued by internal disputes and there is tension at its borders, strategically, Islamabad is standing all alone. The highly rated friend of Pakistan — China — declined Islamabad’s invitation to its president at a time when we truly needed him to visit our shores. The reason of postponing the visit was obvious as Islamabad was jammed due to massive sit-ins. On the other hand, another friend-cum-foe of Pakistan, the US, is supporting India despite our archrival building dams on the Indus river in Jammu and Kashmir. These are some glaring examples of Pakistan’s loneliness at the international level. Resultantly, New Delhi is using all its energy to catch us on the wrong foot. The high intensity shelling of Indian forces on our innocent civilians living along the Line of Control is an eye-opening example of Indian pressure-building on Pakistan. Dozens of people have lost their lives. India wants to exploit all this and hurt Pakistan.

All our political parties, the establishment, the armed forces and the government must act in unison at this time. Otherwise, the day is not far when Pakistan will be in deep trouble economically, politically and strategically.
