Jahangir questions Imran's 'treatment of women' following comments against HRCP

Says world knows how Imran 'treats women' a day after he called on HRCP not to ‘teach’ him about human rights

ISLAMABAD: Former Supreme Court Bar Association president and human rights lawyer Asma Jahangir criticised Imran for his remarks against the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), saying that the entire world knew how much "respect Imran Khan has for women".

During his ‘Azadi March’ address on Wednesday, the PTI chief urged the organisation to disclose its sources of funding, and not to ‘teach’ him or his party of human rights.

His remarks came a day after HRCP in a statement said that the present political situation, characterised by sit-ins, had diverted attention away from other more important issues.

While addressing the media outside the Supreme Court on Thursday, Jahangir, in regard to Imran's statements, said, “Everyone knows how much respect he gave to women is his lifetime."

She added that the Shaukat Khanam Hospital, founded by Imran Khan, was also a trust, adding that they never formed NGOs in the name of their parents – as Imran has done.

Imran declared the Women's Protection Bill 2006 a US sponsored one, spoke in favour of Hudood Ordinance and abstained from voting on the Women's Protection Bill. Everyone knows the reality of the beard inside the stomach.
