PESHAWAR:

All tertiary care hospitals in the city will remain open during Eidul Azha holidays to cope with any sort of emergency, however, their out-patient departments (OPD) will be closed till Wednesday.

Keeping in view deteriorating law order in the province over the past few days, the hospital’s administration decided all departments, including the emergency unit and wards, will remain open throughout Eid, Lady Reading Hospital’s Spokesperson Syed Jameel Shah told The Express Tribune on Saturday. He added only OPDs would be closed from Sunday (today) to Wednesday.

OPDs of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) will be closed from Monday to Wednesday, said KTH public relations officer Farhad Khan.

“The contact information of all doctors, paramedical staff and nurses has been placed in front of the hospital’s chief executive’s office in case of an emergency,” said Farhad.

According to Rehmanullah, a resident medical officer at Hayatabad Medical Complex, on Saturday the hospital’s chief executive called a meeting and urged doctors to pay special attention to underprivileged patients.

For security: Around 2,000 policemen deployed

Some 2,000 policemen have been deployed across the city as part of strict security measures put in place for Eidul Azha.

According to a policeman, leaves of personnel and high-ranking officials have been cancelled.

“Major markets such as Qissa Khwani Bazaar have been closed for traffic by placing concrete barriers,” he added.

He said policemen in uniforms as well as in plain clothes will be patrolling with rider squads and mobiles during the holidays.

Police have also been deputed at cattle markets.
