KARACHI: Four people, including two cousins, were killed in separate acts of targeted killing and violence in the metropolis on Monday.

Two cousins were shot dead while their friend was wounded in an act of targeted killing in the Samanabad locality of Federal B Area. The incident occurred late on Sunday night, when unidentified armed men opened fire on them as they sat near their homes.

All three men were critically wounded and immediately taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where two of them succumbed to injuries during treatment. The deceased cousins were identified as Zeeshan and Saqib, while their injured friend was identified as Faisal. They were aged between 30 and 35 years. Initial reports suggested that the victims were affiliated with a banned sectarian organisation, but the police later claimed that they had no links with any political or religious party.

Samanabad SHO Nadir Khan told The Express Tribune that the victims, particularly the deceased, were involved in faith healing activities, which the police suspected were the cause of the attack. He said that the attackers were riding a motorcycle, but had been backed up by accomplices in a car. No case had been registered, as the police were waiting to record Faisal's statement.

Separately, 50-year-old Hussain Buksh was killed at Ameer Buksh Goth within the limits of Bin Qasim police station. Police officials said that according to initial investigations, the deceased seemed to have been killed by his brother over a family dispute.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man was found dead at a bus stand in Baldia Town. Ittehad Town police officials said that the victim had been kidnapped and tortured by unidentified person, who later dumped his body in the area. The deceased was shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification after medico-legal formalities were completed at Civil Hospital, Karachi.

In another incident, a young man, Sohail Burney, was shot and injured near the Baitul Mukarram mosque in the jurisdiction of Aziz Bhatti police. There were reports that the injured was a relative of social welfare activist Ansar Burney, but DSP Nasir Lodhi denied these, saying that the incident occurred when Sohail resisted a robbery attempt.
