Sindh’s rural pool

Letter September 25, 2014
The people of Sindh want to fight for a better society but they are without a leader.

ISLAMABAD: The conditions of people living in the rural and remote areas of Sindh are very deplorable compared to those in other provinces of Pakistan. It is mainly due to the corrupt and oppressive policies of the ruling elite. The conditions of the famers are pitiable. When visiting various parts of Sindh, cries like “give us peace; give us bread” are commonly heard but sadly no one seems to care.

The pirs and politicians tend to exploit the Sindhi people for their selfish needs. They make them work long hours but don’t pay them. Their condition is so miserable that they neither have political rights nor any hope of gaining reforms to improve their living conditions.

Vladimir Lenin aptly said, “As long as there is such a thing in the country as illiteracy it is hard to talk about political education.” This phrase should help us understand the importance of education. Those who are in power lack knowledge and sadly most of our population does too, so how are they supposed to stand up for their rights?

There is growing disgust against the ruling elite and corrupt bureaucrats everywhere in the province. The people of Sindh want to fight for a better society but they are without a leader.

Is there anyone out there who can come to the rescue of the people of Sindh? Is there anyone who can fight for their rights? Is there anyone who can stand up against the cruel pirs and politicians?
