MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Javed Hashmi on Tuesday submitted his nomination papers for by-polls in NA-149, Multan II as an independent candidate.
Talking to the media after submitting his papers, Hashmi said that he did not want to resign from his National Assembly seat but did so in respect of party chairperson Imran Khan’s decision to do so.
“I have given the people of my constituency their right to vote a leader of their choice into power again by resigning from my seat,” Hashmi added.
Terming his resignation as an act of service for the people of his constituency, Hashmi said he has given candidates of other parties the opportunity to contest elections from his constituency.
“If I completed my term and remained in power for the next five years, some of the candidates would not be able to contest the elections,” the PTI president said.
Referring to PTI’s announcement to boycott elections from the NA-149 constituency, Hashmi said that it is 'shameful' that the party has stolen the right of PTI supporters in this particular constituency by not contesting elections.
“PTI has adopted a double role, they come on top of the container and boycott elections but inside the container they meet with other leaders,” he alleged.
Further, Hashmi said he has not received a show cause notice as yet from PTI secretary general Jehangir Tareen. The notice has summoned Hashmi to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee on September 29.
“Jehnagir Tareen was made secretary general of the party unconstitutionally; he did not get a single vote,” a disgruntled Hashmi alleged, while reacting to the notice.
Responding to PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s invitation to join other PTI leaders on their container and ask PTI workers whether they recognise Hashmi as their president or not, he said, “I have no qualms about going on the container.”
“If Imran Khan calls me, I will go and stand on the container and tell the youth that their rights and future are being played with.”
“PTI’s youth never accepted Shah Mehmood Qureshi, neither in Karachi nor in Lahore and Multan,” Hashmi claimed, adding that the youth is aware how Qureshi came into power and that he will destroy the party.
“I hope Imran Khan sees this side of Qureshi soon.”
On September 22, Hashmi challenged Qureshi to contest by-polls in NA-149 against him and said he never considered him a rival.

@Iqbal Hadi Zaiid: Your comment is irrelevant to this news post. And, if you really claim to be a friend of NS, while during the last thirty days or so, you have supported the dharnis and their leaders, consistently, furiously, and often without good reason, how can NS consider you a friend? Your audacity at hypocrisy knows no bounds.
face saving device by PTI to boycott polls that means they were sure to loose. Horrible.
@Iqbal Hadi Zaiid: That is what happens to people who give unsolicited advice.
@mohammad hussain:This the mentality of most Pakistanis to throw mud on out going leader
Kudos - probably the only prominent politician in Pakistan who is articulate, level headed and doesn't threaten to sue his opponents all the time. He is brave enough to stand up to his boss knowing he's going to be lambasted - brave enough to run for re-election to determine whether the voters will appreciate his honesty. Pakistan needs more like him.
@Iqbal Hadi Zaiid: Sir, if you've "been there, done that", then you must know that the political leaders take public humiliation and loss of self respect as no issue or hurdle to cross or fear. In their Goal of Power every thing goes, till the last breath!
WELL SAID HASHMI SAAB
The Facebook and Twitter mafia will no doubt be on the offensive against hashmi saab. Swearing and abusing him for his sincere efforts against these opportunists. Queshri has been part of nearly every major political party. Also, Jehangir Khan has many question marks. I.K. has more spin than shane warne. Funny that people were singing Hashmi songs and praises and now they are spitting on him.
weldone Hashi, you are symbol of democracy in Pakistan
Dont know what is the use of such "honest, unbiased and rebellious" politicians. They dont help to change the system instead diverge your energies towards non-issues.
My goodness! I had suggested which is flashed here also that under the changed situation when every where GO NAWAZ GO is shouted PM Nawaz should not go to attend UN because I am afraid he will be greeted with Go Nawaz Go but he did not listen to me and instead went to USA to hear GO NAWAZ GO. What surprises me the most is that he should know who is his foe and who is his friend. I advised him to stay back as his friend but he ignored me as if I am his foe. Sir, my humble advice to you is that please leave the politics and spent life happily with your family, you become old. You left IK in his difficult periods. Spent lot of time in prayers, as you are not the only one who is loyal with democracy.
Hashmi should get elected un-opposed
