Hope for a better future

Letter September 23, 2014
I voted for PTI in the last elections because the other 3 parties were corrupt and had done nothing constructive.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to the letter titled I support Imran Khan even more now, by Bisma Salahuddin (September 22).

Unlike the writer of the letter I have voted in many elections. I voted for the PTI in the last election because the other three parties and their leaders were corrupt and had done nothing constructive.

However, one bears in mind that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto promised roti, kapra aur makaan, which were never forthcoming. He was a feudal lord and talked of representing ‘the people’. Ziaul Haq promised to provide honesty and justice as Islamic precepts but was neither honest nor just.

One may vote on the basis of claims but one must then judge on the basis of performance. The PTI has certainly not performed well in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Imran Khan has lied publicly a number of times. At first he lied when he had yelled at a constable for stopping him when he was over-speeding and then denied it in an interview. He apologised only when he was shown a clip of his behaviour. He lied when he denied meeting Qadri in London and eventually admitted to it when he was confronted with evidence. He has now claimed in his rally as reported in The Express Tribune of September 22, that he will teach people how to fight against feudal lords.

Ms Salahuddin should, like me, admit that yet another political leader has let Pakistan down and hope that the future holds a better one. She should look at the damage done by those who have continued to support charismatic leaders who repeatedly renege on their promises.
