VIP culture

Letter September 21, 2014
VIPs are not more important, their time is not more precious, they are not worth more than ordinary folks.

KARACHI: This is with reference to your editorial titled “No-fly zone” (September 18).

Why do people have to wait in traffic when some so-called ‘VIP’ has to pass? What exactly is the thinking behind this? Are VIPs more important? Is their time more precious? Are they worth more than the ordinary folks? Is their security more important? What other reason could there be, can any reader please answer, can any ‘VIP’ please answer. I shall be most grateful to know the mindset behind this unfortunate state of affairs. Hundreds of people have to wait for a VIP motorcade to pass, why should they? Some have emergencies and many have lost their lives because the common traffic is stopped while VIPs are on the move. This way patients cannot reach hospitals in time to get medical care. Why cannot the people in charge of all this understand that common folks are very frustrated, they have and will take law into their own hands if this continues? VIPs are not more important, their time is not more precious, they are not worth more than ordinary folks, their security is not more important than ordinary folks. Does any reader disagree? Does any VIP disagree? If so, let’s hear what the other side has to say.
