Time to take a stand

Letter September 20, 2014
Whether one believes it or not, its a fact that people of this country want to get rid of those who have robbed it.

ISLAMABAD: The people of Pakistan expect democracy to deliver equity in access to justice and economic opportunity. The people of Pakistan suffer every day due to crime and corruption. There is no proper infrastructure for education and healthcare and certainly no form of social assistance.

Everybody keeps on hearing about the development funds that the government allocates for numerous projects, but nothing actually happens on the ground. There are many villages in the province of Sindh that do not have basic elementary schools. The ones that do have schools do not have teachers that come regularly. Most of them only come on the days they are expected to receive their salaries and while away the hours in the staff room. Most of them are not qualified to be teachers, consequently the children do not tend to learn anything and are highly demotivated.

It is extremely depressing that two out of five Sindhi children die before the age of five, often from illnesses that could be easily prevented if there is access to basic healthcare in the province. Sadly, the funds allocated for healthcare and hygiene go directly into the accounts of those in power and not to those who desperately need them. Whether one believes it or not but it is an undeniable fact that the people of this country want to get rid of those who have robbed and ruined this country in the name of democracy. They want a revolutionary change in all the aspects of life. That is the reason why these people have come together and joined hands to stage sit-ins in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Avenue in Islamabad.
