Self-proclaimed Naya Pakistan?

Letter September 18, 2014
Imran’s doctrine of Naya Pakistan commenced with violence, seems to have ended on a self-proclaimed prime ministership

ZHOB: Self-justified doctrines have disastrous results. When former American president George W Bush dictated his doctrine to the whole world — “You’re either with us or against us”, there was no third way. This self-justified doctrine of Bush pushed the whole world into a messy war against terrorism— the faceless enemy. Since then, the flames of war have engulfed the entire world. Same is the case with Imran Khan’s vision of the so-called Naya Pakistan. Imran’s doctrine of Naya Pakistan commenced with violence and seems to have ended on a self-proclaimed prime ministership.

According to him, all those who resorted to violence against the state, attacked the Parliament House and the PTV centre, including Danda Bardar group and the Canada-based Moulvi-cum-actor-politican, are on the right side because they chose the option of saying ‘yes’ while all the other are wrong because they support democracy and Parliament and chose to say ‘no’. Furthermore, Javed Hashmi changed his mind overnight while Sheikh Rasheed and the politically unemployed Chaudhry brothers are more democrats than Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Aitzaz Ahsan and Raza Rabbani have devoted their lives to the cause of democracy in the country. Hence, the former self-proclaimed doctrine pushed the whole world into an aimless war and we are still feeling the aftershocks. In the latter case, it is dragging the fragile democratic process and shaky economy into chaos.
