Please stop using the abbreviation ‘K-P’

Letter September 17, 2014
I would like to make humble request to all segments of society to call K-P by its complete constitutional name.

ZHOB: The province orphaned by the government, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, had been nameless since its subjugation by Great Britain. It had been called North West Frontier Province for more than a century. The term ‘frontier’ means Sarhad (border) which is not a name. Luckily, after long democratic and peaceful struggles by the natives, the province was named Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Unfortunately, the province’s new constitutional name has been deteriorated by abbreviating it to K-P which the natives consider to be decapitation of their identity. From NWFP to K-P, too unfortunate the province is. Alas, once again the province has become nameless.

A humble request to all the writers, columnists, academia, National Assembly members, and both electronic media and print media of Pakistan, to call the province by its proper name — Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Through The Express Tribune, one of the leading newspapers of Pakistan, I would like to make humble request to all the segments of society to call the province by its complete constitutional name — Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa — and avoid using K-P.
