KARACHI: The World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) has announced that the Cricket World Cup of the Blind (one-day format) will take place from November 26 to December 9 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Eight Test-playing countries, including defending champions Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies, England, South Africa and Bangladesh will participate in the competition.

The inaugural ceremony of the World Cup will take place on November 26, while the matches will start a day later.

Archrivals Pakistan and India will go head-to-head in the opening match of the event, which will be played on a single-match league basis.

The top four teams at the end of the league phase will qualify for the semi-finals, where the top side will take on the team finishing fourth. In the other last-four encounter, the second and third-ranked sides will vie for a place in the final.

South Africa were the first champions in the one-day format, defeating Pakistan in 1998.

But the losing side avenged their defeat in the 2002 edition by beating the Proteas in Chennai, India.

The third World Cup was staged in Islamabad in 2006, and the hosts successfully defended their title after beating India.

Apart from the ODI event, one T20 Blind World Cup has also been staged, which was won by India at the expense of Pakistan in 2012.
