ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on Monday submitted a written reply to the Supreme Court, requesting the apex court to direct all political parties to resolve the current political impasse within the parameters of the Constitution while committing to its supremacy.

“It would be appropriate to leave the ongoing political impasse upon the political leadership for resolution,” the PML-Q urged, adding, that the PML-Q leadership is also making efforts to settle the current political dispute in a Constitutional manner.

PML-Q’s reply carries significant weight as it comes after the party president Chaudhry Shujaat in a statement asked the army to take over the government.

The reply to a petition filed by Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bar Association, submitted by PML-Q advocate Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan also contended that in the name of democracy, the Sharif brothers has established a dictatorship in the country.

“The current political situation and protests have cropped up in the backdrop of certain political issues and massacre of innocent people in Model Town,” the reply read.

“2013 general elections were the most disputed elections in the history of the country, wherein almost every political party and stockholder alleged massive institutional rigging in one way or the other,” it added, questioning the validity of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.

“Even after the elections, the government and its members are involved in corruption, mismanagement and misgovernance. National interests, especially relating to the defence and security of Pakistan are being compromised and national security institutions like armed forces are being maligned.”

The reply further stated that public welfare issues such as price hikes, load shedding, unemployment and others were not being addressed which had compelled the people to come out on to the streets and launch a long march.

The PML-Q contended that the right to protest is conferred on every citizen as a fundamental right under Article 16 of the Constitution.  Similarly, freedom of movement, freedom of association and freedom of speech have also been recognised as fundamental rights under Articles 15, 16,17 and 19 of the constitution, the reply added.

@Muslim Leaguer:

Dear Sir, What you call 'chaos' is our people standing up for their rights. PMLN mentality is visible, kill people and then when they stand up for their rights the elite calls it chaos. There was no 'LONDON PLAN', it was just two political parties agreeing on reforms. What triggered the 'chaos' is PMLN leadership killing innocent people and refusing to step aside until the investingation is complete. Did pervez elahi kill people in model town? While your leaders are busy planning a crackdown on the protesters pervez elahi is in PIMs hospital showing solidarity with the people your PMLn govt has tortured. THE NATION IS AWARE OF THE PEOPLE WHO LEFT THEM, signed a deal and RAN AWAY while many muslim leaguers including my family were in jail! PMLN leaders know that once they leave power they will be hanged for the murders. Then we will see who is history.
