Crisis management: Altaf endorses military intervention

MQM chief supported the formation of a govt of technocrats

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain invited the army to take control of the country once again and resolve the political crisis.

According to a press statement, Altaf insisted that if the armed forces intend to take unwarranted or even unpleasant steps to resolve the political crisis, they should not waver and take action. However, the MQM chief added that he was strongly against martial law and all action by the army should be taken within the purview of the Constitution.

Altaf lashed out at the ruling party for putting the blame on the opposing parties for involving the army chief as a mediator. He added that through such tactics the government has tarnished the image and credibility of the armed forces.

“If I was in the PM’s place, I would have immediately resigned,” the MQM chief said in an interview with a news channel.

The prime minister claimed that he was approached by the protesting parties to involve the army in the talks. However, according to Altaf, the truth was exposed in an ISPR statement which suggested that the government had asked the army to get involved.

Furthermore, the MQM chief supported the formation of a government of technocrats  and asked the army to intervene to facilitate a smooth transition.

Referring to a tweet from the DG ISPR — who said that the government had asked the army chief to play a facilitative role — Altaf said that the army should play its part in setting up a technocrat government and then take a back seat.

To make your recommendation sincere, why don't you resign from your MQM POSITION while you are under investigation of Scotland Yard?
