End the deadlock

Letter August 24, 2014
PML-N have sorely under-estimated and miscalculated the situation and it is high time they took action.

KARACHI: The current situation of protest and sit-ins in the federal capital has gone on long enough. It seems like everyone is on the television sharing their views as to how the problem can be solved but despite that nothing has changed. The sit-in continues and the numbers (despite what one wants to believe) are increasing. Each time Imran Khan or Tahirul Qadri address their rallies, their speeches heighten the feelings of their already charged people.

Not only Pakistan but the whole world has their eyes on the federal capital, and what we see is not comforting. The world is watching how the protestors have stormed into the red zone and are observing a sit-in outside the parliament, but the government is not making an effort to talk or negotiate.

It is difficult to decide who is being more stubborn: is it the government whose love for their power is so great that they refuse to surrender or is it the protestors who argue that the prime minister is not rightfully elected.

Whatever the case the fact of the matter is that with the passage of time the situation is worsening. Since the PML-N is in power, they have to relent and solve this crisis. They have sorely under-estimated and miscalculated the situation and it is high time they took action.
