Ill-advised decision

Letter August 23, 2014
Even if all Punjabis support PTI’s campaign it would be unwise for such a decision to be imposed on rest of Pakistan.

PAKISTAN: Recently, while explaining the reasons for their agitation against the National Assembly and the prime minister, Vice-Chairman of the PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that there were 148 seats in the National Assembly from Punjab and that they held public meetings in four major cities of Punjab. He said these meetings were attended by a large number of people, and they concluded that the common people supported their campaign. He further said that this was the reason why the party was insisting on the prime minister’s resignation.

While that may be the case, this ignores the fact that Pakistan is based on four federating units and not Punjab alone. Even if all the Punjabis are in support of the PTI’s campaign it would be unwise and disastrous for such a decision to be imposed on the rest of Pakistan.
