What needs to be done now

Letter August 23, 2014
What we need to see is both sides showing flexibility in order to resolve the issue as soon possible.

ISLAMABAD: Up till now the PTI seems to have made no political gain or achievement through the Azadi March and the reason I say that is because I think that one cannot change the system this way.

Yes, we all want electoral reforms, free and fair elections, speedy and reliable justice, quality education for our children and many other things but is this the way to do it, by holding the country’s federal capital hostage? The PTI is showing street power but it seems to forget that the PML-N, the PPP and other political parties are also capable of bringing their supporters on the streets.

What we need to see is both sides showing flexibility in order to resolve the issue as soon possible in the better interests of ordinary Pakistanis.

We, the people, just want to get on with our lives with peace. More than a week has passed since the sit-ins and we are like hostages in a situation with now law in place.

Islamabad is in disarray. Business and all kinds of daily activities are paralysed. Huge losses are being borne. For how long can this go on?
