Allocate a venue for dharnas

Letter August 20, 2014
Allocate a park or an empty ground for such activities so that everybody else can carry on with their lives.

ISLAMABAD: Protesting against the government has become the norm in Pakistan. Be it the hundreds of traders chanting slogans against the sit-ins, or thousands of PTI and PAT activists staging those sit-ins in Aabpara, it has brought Pakistan’s already-stalling economy to a full halt. Who is going to compensate the Federal Capital’s businesses and traders who have suffered immeasurably over the past week because of the uncertainty and the presence of thousands of marchers?

A better option would be to allocate a park or an empty ground for such activities so that everybody else can carry on with their lives. The best example of this is Hyde Park in London, where protesters are given open space to voice their demands.
