Quaid’s betrayed legacy

Letter August 20, 2014
I find it embarrassing that qualities of Mohammad Ali Jinnah have not rubbed off on our citizens or on our politicians

LAHORE: This is in response to Shamshad Ahmad’s article titled “Quaid’s betrayed legacy” published on August 16. Keeping in view the current political scenario of chaos, uncertainty and instability in the country, would we, the ordinary citizens, not affiliated with any political party, on this upcoming Independence Day, may suffer less from our own self-inflicted wounds?

I find it embarrassing that the qualities of our Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, have not rubbed off on our citizens or on our politicians.

So what are we afraid of today and when did our passion for Pakistan die? I look around and see fear on so many faces. We, unfortunately, fear ourselves. It is the untruths that we have lived by that make us fearful of everything we should have believed in and been proud of. If Jinnah had been here today, I am sorry to say there would have been much pain in his heart at witnessing our state.

The country is in a state of war against terrorists in North Waziristan and at this time we should be feeling the pain of the internally displaced persons. Will we ever reunite or were we never united to begin with?
