Regi Model Town

Letter August 01, 2014
Despite the full payment made to PDA, to date none of the allottees has yet to gain possession of the plots.

PESHAWAR: Regi Model Town, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s largest government housing scheme, is situated close to the University of Peshawar and Hayatabad. It is several times bigger than the size of Hayatabad. The project was launched by the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) almost two decades back to provide housing, education and health facilities to people. Over 25,000 plots of land were allotted to lawyers, judges, nurses, doctors, engineers, teachers, civil servants, journalists, clerks and other government employees and the allottees made full payment to PDA more than a decade ago. However, to date none of the allottees has yet to gain possession of the plots.

Those who have spent their life savings on this scheme have urged the government to resolve the dispute, which is apparently with a local tribe. They have also said that if the dispute cannot be settled in the near future, then alternative plots of land in Hayatabad or Zone III and IV of Regi Model town should be given.
