Alleged gangsters, target killers, kidnapper shot dead

Two gang members arrested in an injured condition after an exchange of fire with the police.

KARACHI: Two alleged gangsters, two alleged target killers and an alleged kidnapper were killed during separate raids in three different parts of the city on Sunday.

In Lyari, two alleged gang members were killed during an alleged encounter with the police and Rangers in Khadda Market, Baghdadi. SSP Sheeraz Nazeer told The Express Tribune that the gangsters were killed during a joint operation by the police and Rangers. He added that they were killed in an exchange of fire. Both the gangsters were killed on the spot. The bodies were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi. The deceased were identified as Daud Memon and Asim Dada. Police officials claimed that the men were involved in more than 20 criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and extortion.

Target killers targeted

Separately, two alleged target killers were killed in Boat Basin, Clifton. On-duty police officer Khamiso said that the suspects were intercepted during routine checking. They resorted to indiscriminate firing at the police while trying to escape. Eventually, both were gunned down when the police retaliated. According to police officials, the suspects were involved in various targeted killing and extortion cases. The bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue, Sohrab Goth for identification after medico-legal formalities were completed at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Kidnapper killed, abductee recovered

In another encounter, an alleged kidnapper was killed when Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), in collaboration with the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), conducted a raid at the kidnappers’ hideout in Northern Bypass area. According to CPLC cheif Ahmed Chinoy, the raid had been launched in a bid to recover an abductee from the kidnappers. CPLC and AVCC officials said that the raid was conducted to recover the abductee, Haseebullah, 17, son of Naseebullah.

The teenager was kidnapped on June 28 from Javed Bahria, Mauripur, and the kidnappers had demanded Rs20 million as ransom. Chinoy said that during the raid, one kidnapper was killed and another was arrested, while two others managed to escape under the cover of firing. The deceased was identified as Amir Baloch and the injured as Malik Mehran. Nonetheless, the abductee was safely recovered.

‘Gangsters’ busted

Meanwhile, two alleged gang members were arrested in injured condition after an exchange of fire with the police in Slaughter House, Baghdadi. The arrested men were identified as Hunain and Tanvir. SSP Sheeraz Nazeer said that the arrested gangsters were wanted by the police in various cases of extortion and robberies.
