The victim of Monday’s alleged gang rape in Mansehra has threatened to commit suicide if the perpetrators are not brought to justice. The 17-year-old resident of Mansehra, Parveen*, spoke to reporters over the phone from an undisclosed location on Wednesday.
She said her best friend Anum – who conned Parveen to get into the car with rapists – lost her mother three years ago and her father was bedridden with a bad back. Since Anum’s own family was unable to bear the cost of her education, Parveen’s family had been supporting Anum financially for the last two years, said the college student.
“This is how she decided to reward me, with an irremovable stigma, after trapping me for criminals who had destroyed the life of several innocent girls.
“I told her not to but she dragged me into the car. My trust in a friend destroyed my life.”
Weeping over the phone, Parveen claimed the accused rapists took advantage of the car’s tinted windows and loud music so no one could hear her screaming at the top of her lungs, crying for help.
Answering a question, the victim said she vowed to continue her struggle till she “sees the culprits hanged”.
This is now a test for the country’s judicial system, said Parveen. “The Peshawar High Court chief justice needs to mete out exemplary punishment to the accused or else I will take my own life, the responsibility of which will lie solely with the judiciary and the police.”
A life changed
The student of inter was conned by her friend to sit in a car Anum claimed belonged to her fiancé. Two men were in the car – a seminary teacher Qari Naseer and the driver, Anum’s friend Faizan. Hussain, the son of union council Jabori’s nazim Kala Khan, was picked up a little later.
Parveen was raped in the moving vehicle by Naseer and Hussain. The accused rapists were arrested under Section 376-2 of the Pakistan Penal Code on Monday night. Anum and Faizan have been charged for abetting the crime.
Not first-timers
According to the police, the men were involved in several other cases of molestation and abuse of college girls. They would make videos of the abuse to blackmail the girls later.
The accused were produced before the court of civil judge Lubna Zaman who sent them on a four-day physical remand.
By the time Naseer and the rest of the accused exited the court, residents had collected outside in protest.
They pelted the accused with tomatoes, eggs and sprayed ink on them, forcing the police to escort the culprits in an armoured personnel vehicle to an undisclosed location.
Later, activists, representatives of civil society and students protested in the city and blocked the roads for an hour. The protesters claimed had the police launched a drive against tinted windows, the girl would have been saved a horrific ordeal.
According to Mansehra DPO Khurrum, the police have recovered 22 SIMs, three cell phones, a memory card, a USB and fake number plates of the vehicle.
Briefing Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, the DPO confirmed all three men and the female accomplice have been arrested, read a statement issued on Wednesday. DNA tests have been conducted and forensic evidence has been forwarded.
Khattak directed the case be disposed on an urgent basis so the accused are unable to use any delaying tactics. “The decision should be made in hours, not days,” said Khattak. (*Name has been changed to protect the victim’s identity)

@Aam Aadmi: do not involved politics , what PMN have done in past for such causes every 1 knows better, they need just their publicity in public nothing than more.
@Hell Fire: very well said I am 100% agreed with ur comments,
its........................simply unbeliveable. because no girl can give such a big statement
Story tells, Parveen is equally responsible.
@Baba Ji: Newton Law of Motion:
If this happens in the car, car moves in xyz direction if even its switched off... To see some examples Go to any deserted parking of Islamabad You will find it...
How can it happen in a moving car with so many occupants inside the car ? Mind boggling !!!!
@WomenProtectionBill: "Every man is rapist just seeks opportunity…!!"
Please seek a good psychiatrist, you need it. Thanks.
This is the test case for not only judiciary but also for the society and the provincial government... The judiciary is moving in the right direction and so is the civil society in Mansehra. But the provincial government of PTI is still sleeping. The Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif would have definitely gone straight to the victim's house for sympathy, moral support and instructions to the local administration to avoid such mishaps in future in the province. Dharna Khan needs to wake up from self-defeat syndrome and bring speedy justice to the victim!!
Well I think there is a lot that does not meet the eyes here. Since rape is a heinous crime, we all jump to conclusion to punish the culprits. The girl says she was dragged by another girl in the car. If one thinks of it, it is hard to digest unless it is on gun point or with Knife or the victim herself got into the car without doubting the intentions of other people. Second, what kind of car was it? A Van? Because if it was a small car or even a mid or full size sedan then three people in the back would be too crowded to move at all. Then the girl says she was raped by two guys. Assuming two guys were sitting in front in the beginning, and the "friend" was sitting behind, that would mean the guys must have had switched places at some point of time. Now it would be difficult in a moving car, would it not because there were already 3 people in the back ( victim, her friend, and one accused)? They would have had to stop the car for switching the place, that means opening the doors and all and if someone is committing such a crime in a car, opening the door would be the last thing they would do. I think police need to do a very fine detective job here.
@Ahmed: Why r you against women empowerment and independence, why you type people are determined to exploit dependent women.. Every man is rapist just seeks opportunity...!!
@Praz:I understand your point of view but as mentioned Parveen was the only name that was replaced to protect victim's identity , no other name was changed.
Now pakistanis what about your s rape case, you are really quick to comment in india,s rape problem, now understand rape is a global not india's problem only ,happens everywhere in us,uk,australia.
@WomenProtectionBill: Stop forcing your ridiculous suggestions on free society. Your mind is filthy and your suggestions of complete segregation just absurd.
@WomenProtectionBill: 1) It is wrong of you to generalize, people who want equal participation of women are not all rapists. 2) You may keep on writing these copy-paste lines but it is so impractical it can never be implemented.
If once in a time rapists hanged till death in public , trust me this only action saves our girls .
Regards, Father of 3 girls.
@SelectiveJustice: What an absurdly rubbish comment!
@Ahmed: You are free to give your opinion, This is open platform that supports freedom of opinion and speech so stop dictating. It is copy paste because its our think tank composition And we will raise our voice till we do not get this bill implemented... Read it carefully I have mentioned you and your type of people in it who will oppose..
I feel something fishy with the friend, as the perpetrators were not the first timers and they were involved in abuse cases before. They would have raped the friend already and made videos for blackmailing and asked to help them grabbing her friend for the same...who knows...
The community structure is in tatters where such cases occur, not the judicial system is responsible for the predators who are the integral part of the community. Reforms are needed fo protect the rights of women in the communities, which cannot be realised without the support of community elders, and the civil courage of the community members. Not Judiciary and quick judgement or 7th century punishments..
Rex Minor
@ Abuzar Jamil.....are you looking for 4 male witness.
Stop writing copy pasted lines all the time.
" Pakistan 90% woman who leave their home face severe harassment either on work Place or at their educational institutions. Women can be a doctor, engineer, scientist and businessman"
So who will the women cater to? All women clients? Why don't you demand for a separate women only country/province or at least a city? that's the only way your (ridiculous) suggestions can work. All men are not rapists! And banning men is NOT a solution. What is needed is empowerment of women, proper laws and their implementation.
Our judiciary is much to blame for the many problems society faces ....... mainly due their inept inaction.
Women harassment and Protection Bill is Needed In which No Man and women company be allowed in public places (Parks, Restaurants, Transport, University, colleges, work Places etc) those have no blood relation. By this 95% chances of rape and harassment can be eliminated. No more male dominance culture but equality culture. The time woman depends on male she will be exploited in every field of live. She does not need male dependence for her successful career and life. I can see few who oppose this because they know they can’t fulfill their shameful desires without exploiting those women those depend on them. In Pakistan 90% woman who leave their home face severe harassment either on work Place or at their educational institutions. Women can be a doctor, engineer, scientist and businessman and they can become without depending on males. Now few incidences “ Punjab university and Islamic University Cases: Male professors ask for secret services from female students to get good marks”. What if these were female professors and students?? This happens in every institution even at workplace to get promotion or bonuses. About law I know I am out of Mind of those people who are technological illiterate. For what purpose will be 3G/4G technology be used if it can’t be used for betterment of society. Nadra Chip Based N.I.C card and Portable Data reader Tablets. Can easily see Man is with women who has legal relationship.(wife, sister, Mother) and is not with someone whom he give some unconscious drink to take her away for bestiality . Media reports only 1% of rape cases because 99% are not reported and registered in cities. We have to take measures to make this state a welfare state for everyone.
No one does rape on his first attempt,, A person who is involved in adultery can only commit this crime,,, So give strick Punishment to people who commit adultery it will eliminate rape automatically.. But doing adultery is enlighten moderation so that is why now it is everywhere in Modern Pakistan..
2 guys where in car 2 more added, 2 where girls... Is this Toyota Prius car or ford truck,, who sat in the lap of whom...!!
I really do hope the case goes through a quick trial and the accused are brought to justice as they said in days and not months or years.Furthermore, it won't be a bad idea to provide the girl security over the course of the trail. @bamboosha: imagine me writing the same comment "Enjoyments gone out of limits" if it was ur sister or close family !! God forbids ! Please think before you spill your mental poison over an open forum !!
Lets support this and every daughter, sister who has gone through this ordeal. Its not their fault and they should not feel guilty or humilated. Its the criminals who have lost in this world and world after.
@Shafaq: Bravo! Yes, they should be immediately HANGED. Anum should be whipped for her infidelity. Salams
Every criminal should be awarded his merit punishment otherwise these kind of cases will happened in every area of this country like nowadays happening in India. If someone takes bribe or listen to VVIP, MPA's, MNA's or land lord and protect the criminals then who will protect the daughters of Pakistan from these kinds of culprits. The true Islamic law system of Saudi Arabia gives punishment in public places and that's why people afraid to do crime easily. Societies are not improving by making roads, high raise buildings and factories but by establishing and commencing strict rules, laws and active Judicial and Police system , clean from corruption and all decision comes with full honesty and sincerity where no one get a single chance to escape. Lawyers should not support criminals by providing a back door through raise doubtful points in the case and protecting them from the punishment that’s why those lawyers are also part of the crime and criminals. Police department are full of black sheeps but still honest officers are working hard. Allah is looking to every one of this world and everyone will be presenting at the Day of Judgment for his rewards so it is necessary that every responsible person should perform his duty with full honesty and sincerity. Strict punishment should be awarded to the criminals and make this case as role model symbol for others to follow. Allah save all of us from every kind of crime and criminals and protect us from every side till the death and enter us to Paradise where every taste of joy is available without doing any sin or crime. We all need to wait and be patient on problems and make our Allah more happy by doing worship and pray to get a reward of Paradise Inshullah.
Justice and equality in Pakistan for every national.A big question mark on the end of it because Pakistan's prolonged legal and delayed justice's and judicial procedures and most especially importantly sometimes quickly bails' laws make the speedy justice impossible.Anyways lets hope for better and quick speedy justice from CJP.......
Stone them to death so an example is set once and for all! A strong message needs to be sent to all would be molesters and rapists! Enough is enough! If this case is not brought to its logical conclusion swiftly, given all the evidence and confessions, people will take to the streets. No doubt about that.
@Praz: Ah, yes we Muslims are angels. We can't commit any sins. Got hurt by the use of the names (more likely their real names) but no word on the poor girl!
This is exactly the problem of Pakistan. Holier than thou. A girl gets raped but the commentator is more bothered about the names! You should at least comment on the Madresah teacher raping a girl then be bothered about a name!
@Bamboosha: Ridiculous! Sitting in front of a computer making cheap comments about the victim. Pakistanis like conspiracy theories but you are a different breed altogether. The girl was raped, medical tests have proved it.
Rapes do take place in Pakistan, maybe you need to open your mind and be a little dignified in your thinking. It is beyond shameless to write such cheap comments
I would ask you if God forbid if it turns out to be one of your relatives?!
(@ET if you can allow such comments then you should allow mine too in response to such comments).
Judicial system? Huh, right.
@Praz: and what does that matter? is that all you have to say in this case?
wah! may friend anam/sadia or some girl draged me into the car!!!?? she is making the story. a 17 year old girl making this big statement in pakistan! no. enjoyment gone out of limits! thats what it seems. how on earth this story can be believable?
wow! may friend anam/sadia or some girl draged me into the car!!!?? she is making the story. a 17 year old girl making this big statement in pakistan! no. enjoyment gone out of limits! thats what it seems.
@Praz: Only the girls name has been Changed to Parveen. Others names are original I guess.
Heard this horrific story first time from my area. I hope and wish that those rascals are first given 1000 lashes each and then to be hanged till death in public, only then we can preserve the social values and protect the society!
Otherwise the country is full of lawless hounds roaming around freely.
We are becoming a sick nation day by day. Shame on us....
Great after terrorism and polio, now we have become Rapistan with such crimes happening daily at ghastly rate. Another feather in the cap of current govt. Sad state of affairs. Country has gone down to chutes. Peshawar court should bring the victim to justice.
The rapists should be castrated in public so that it serves as a lesson on others. I hope Tribune publishes this.
What is good in this case? the culprits had been arrested so it is up to the courts to make it an example for everyone who even think of this heinous crime. otherwise tear apart this judicial system that can not provide justice........
fell so sorry for this girl. Don't trust anybody these days. The world is full of animals all around us disguising themselves in different shapes. i just hope the criminal get their due punishment. No more suicide please. where is PM, CJP?
Don't know about other two rapists but the bearded one who runs a madrassa should have his willy chopped off before hanging him in public; and his body should should be cremated and preserved right there and then so that people can come from all over the world to throw kankar (stones) at this shaitan (devil).
ET, please refrain from using pious names (such as Hussain, etc.) to hide the identities of people involved in such barbaric acts. If need be, use names which do not have religious significance.
The perpetrators of this heinous crime should be hanged, ASAP.
They must be hanged publicly immediately.
Our Courts charges tax payers for spreading injustice.
