Harassment on the streets

Letter April 25, 2014
Its a myth that street harassment is just harmless fun. It’s about power and control, can so easily turn to violence.

LAHORE: As far as I understand, street harassment easily constitutes unwelcome words by unknown persons in public places — words which are often sensitive to a particular gender and invade a person’s physical and emotional space in a disrespectful, creepy, startling, scary or insulting way.

We live in a society where women are viewed as sexual objects. But women should buck up and not accept street harassment. It is a myth that street harassment is just a bit of harmless fun. It’s about power and control and can so easily turn to violence.
