ISLAMABAD:

A man threw his minor son and daughter into the Indus River after a family dispute in a village near Attock on Wednesday. As a result, the four-year-old boy drowned, while the 18-month-old girl survived after being rescued by a fisherman.

Police sources informed The Express Tribune that Faqir Bacha, a resident of Soujanda village, got into a row with his in-laws over a family dispute on Wednesday morning. For unknown reasons, he then decided to throw his son Awais and daughter Zulikhah into the Indus River.

The boy drowned in the river and his body could not be recovered, however, the baby girl was spotted and rescued by a local fisherman. On being informed, the local police rushed to the scene and arrested Bacha, the accused. The Attock Saddar police have registered a case against him and further investigation is under way.

Sources in the police say that Bacha admitted to the crime during interrogation, and blamed his heinous actions on anger stemming from the earlier quarrel with his in-laws.
