LAHORE: Despite the fact that the menace of terrorism has wreaked havoc on the peace and prosperity of our country, I can’t see any commitment or befitting response on this issue from any quarter, including both the government and the opposition. The government has apparently kowtowed to the militants while the opposition’s somersaults are quite visible. Political parties like the PPP and the MQM have been critical of the government’s inactivity on the issue of terrorism and of showing considerable leniency towards terrorists. However, the same parties are also opposing the government’s Protection of Pakistan Ordinance, which if passed into law, could strengthen the fight against militancy. It should be realised that a drive against terrorism cannot be conceived and materialised in a vacuum and the opposition should back the government on the PPO.
