QUETTA:

The Baloch Students Organisation (BSO) staged a protest outside the Quetta Press Club on Thursday against mainstream media for not providing adequate coverage to serious issues in Balochistan.

Dozens of students belonging to the student body chanted slogans against what they called discriminatory attitude of the mainstream media.

“It seems like a complete blackout in Balochistan. The people working in this profession should play their role,” said BSO Secretary General, Javed Baloch.

“There is almost no coverage of the peaceful processions and protests against human rights violations in the province,” he said.

Baloch said that the
body wanted to lodge its protest against media-persons in order to make them realise that journalists need to be unbiased and impartial while covering serious issues.

With decades of rigged elections (to prevent nationalists from succeeding and articulating the true concerns of the Baloch), a heavily censored media and a continued policy of repression, can you blame the Baloch youth from stating on Al Jazeera.“We have tried all democratic routes — they have not worked. Our weapons are now our only defense.”
