Civil-military relations

Letter April 17, 2014
Strong civil-military relations are need of the hour, good to note political leadership has capacity to strengthen it.

VEHARI: In any country, a smooth relationship among the state institutions is very important. Although our democratic system is strengthening significantly, yet it is unable to hold the burden of any fissure in institutional relationships.

The recent war of words between civil and military leadership has indicated friction between our two major state institutions and gripped the nerves of the nation. It was not a good omen. However, it is good to note that our political leadership has shown restrain and maturity to bridge the gap in the larger interest of state. The interior minister promptly commented that civilians and the military are on the same page regarding peace talks with the TTP.

Strong civil-military relations are the need of the hour and it is good to note that our political leadership has the capacity to strengthen these relations.
