BAHAWALPUR: A bride’s family on Monday refused to go ahead with the wedding on discovering that the groom’s family had given the fake gold jewellery to the bride.

Abdul Qayum said his sister Ayesha was engaged to Muhammad Ali and their wedding ceremony was scheduled for Monday.

He said on Monday morning, the groom’s family and their relatives arrived at bride’s house for the wedding.

He said before the nikah, the groom presented some jewellery to the bride. He said the gold looked faked and his family had it checked by a goldsmith. He said their suspicions were confirmed; the gold was fake.

He said after the discovery, his sister refused to go through with the marriage and said a person trying to trick her could not be trusted with life.

I would likely have not wanted my sister or daughter to be married to the groom in the above situation either. NOT because I care for gold more, but simply because there appears to be 'pretense' present on the Groom's part, causing 'suspicion'! I'd gladly give away a female from my family in marriage to people who are modest but honest and sincere, but I'd be uncomfortable to proceed without AT LEAST voicing my feelings to the groom and his family BEFORE!
