While no request for military equipment has been approved yet, the embassy did signal its intentions to engage in "security cooperation programmes" with Pakistan to "build partnership capacity".
The statement said that the sale would ultimately be approved by the American State Department.
For more than a year, multiple law enforcement agencies have expressed interest in the equipment that has been moving through Pakistan for the Nato forces in Afghanistan.
The Karachi police, for example, expressed interest in two models of the Humvee, an armoured personnel carrier.
Background
The United States is due to pull all combat troops out of Afghanistan this year, after a 13-year occupation that began after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
While it did plan to leave a residual force to facilitate the transition from ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) to the Afghan law enforcement agencies, this arrangement, under the Bilateral Security Agreement, has not yet been signed by President Hamid Karzai, leaving open the possibility that all American troops may withdraw by the end of this year.

Great idea, let us get more weapons. That should eradicate poverty, hunger and Polio from the country. I am sure people of Thar are real excited.
Why not peace
It is totally confused me now. Yesterday Tribune publish news that Pentagon is saying we will not give any thing to Pak from Afghan war equipment. Now embassy is saying we can give. That is very wired what US are doing... But one thing I am doubt US may not give us real ambush jeeps and trucks rather some scrap .
Pleased to hear this.
Pakistan and US are long standing allies.
This strange animosity that has developed recently is crazy and counter productive.
Also Pak Army really needs these MRAPs as the casualties they have suffered are terrible.
occupation ?? never the truth in reality..!
So the junk and disposable items ultimately becomes the asset of pakistan.
Thought they were going to drive around in Prius hybrid given by Japan? Not a tough choice for anyone who is concerned about defense. Since you have no mechanics certified in hybrid repair I suggest you pick the Humvee.
I hope USA gives us MRAPs(Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected),atleast it can save the lives of our soldiers during an IED attack.
Not in distant past, we were told by the most gairatmand pakistani aka Choudhary Nisar aka Interior Minister that time had come when nation should decide between dollars and honour. Now we have a time upon us when we feel pride in accepting our enemy's (as per Mr Nisar's assertion) leftover weaponry. I am not against this transaction, if it is good for the country. All I am here for is that please for once trust your people and stop emotionally blackmailing them for your cheap popularity stunts. Act according to your size and economic needs. This double speak has made Pakistanis a laughing stock in the world.
We don't want your equipment with strings attach, better give it to the Afghans or demolish it because we all know it's too expensive for U.S to take it back.
