ISLAMABAD:
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Tuesday confirmed the killing of its senior commander Asmatullah Shaheen and claimed that Pakistani and American agencies have “launched a campaign to eliminate Taliban leaders”.

“Asmatullah’s martyrdom is a great loss for the Taliban movement and the huge vacuum [created by his death] will be difficult to fill,” TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said in a statement.

He alleged that “Pakistani agencies are behind the incident as they want to subject the Taliban movement to a huge loss”. However, he added that the  Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was aware of the ‘tactics of the enemy’.

The Taliban spokesperson, Shahidullah Shahid, claimed that the Pakistani and American agencies have launched an alternate programme to drone strikes. Published in The Express Tribune, February 26th, 2014.
