ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that China had signed many agreements with Pakistan, amounting to $30 billion, for energy projects, infrastructure development and boosting economic activities during his visit to the country. “China extended its full cooperation in every sector,” he said, adding that China will install 10 power plants in Thar Coal project, where each power plant will produce 660MW electricity. Sharif said that producing electricity through coal would be cheaper than other resources, saying that more than 65% electricity in the world was being generated through coal. “China signed agreements for projects including Gwadar Port, Gaddani, Kaghan Hydel power, Thar Coal and other power projects,” he added. Speaking about the Nandipur power project, he said that the first turbine of the project will be operational by May 2014. “The PML-N government is committed to resolving the issue of load shedding to the earliest,” Sharif said.
