KARACHI:

Indian film star Shabana Azmi and PPP leader MPA Owais Muzaffar toured the Sindh “Festival” city at Bagh-e-Ibne Qasim on Tuesday. Azmi purchased souvenirs from various stalls and sampled the food available there.

She praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for organising the event, saying it will highlight the culture of Sindh at an international level. Azmi said people from both sides of the border should press their governments to play their role in ensuring a lasting peace between India and Pakistan. The actress added that when she visits Sindh, she feels she is at home.

Owais Muzaffar said the festival is a much-needed source of entertainment to those living in the province and added that the opening ceremony at Mohen jo Daro has given a new identity to the heritage site. He praised the festival as a unique event in the province’s history.

@Tisza Baloch, really get the citizens involved I mean wow, the citizens can barely afford to feed their families , and earn a modest income and you suggest that they should go out and fix the entire sindh's problems when they have hardly enough for their own families . You are an insult to intelligence. It is and always has been the states responsibility to look after its people otherwise why would the people even elect them in the first place. Extravagant showings is not something that Sindh needs , it needs a proper infrastructure and a working plan, and the only one with the financial capability , and the authority to do so is the government , which has utterly made a mockery of itself by throwing away thousands of the tax payers money on a festival which has got nothing to do with Sindh but rather demonstrates the power of the elites and the Waderas.

The presence of Shabnam Azmi celebrates the rich culture we celebrate in Sindhi, if useless people like @concerned are upset about the costs & insists they should go towards health & education so why not get citizens involved by now we should know that Government cannot provide for our people it's time for us to get off our lazy behinds & participate in area that need help.Citizen participation is very lacking, Sind is an affluent district with millions in remittance, so what is the problem. Local involvement is a necessity if we need to pull our sinking fellow citizens, so stop complaining & do something....anything!
