KARACHI:

Three plastic bags full of arms and ammunition were found from Taiser Town near Northern Bypass on Wednesday.

Surjani Town police claimed they went looking for these bags from a water drain after receiving a tip-off. The law enforcers called experts from the bomb disposal squad to make sure there were no explosive at the site. They recovered weapons included nine Kalashnikovs, two 8mm rifles, three 9mm pistols and one repeater.

According to an official, there was an exchange of hot words between the police and Rangers personnel, both of whom wanted to claim responsibility for the big find. The Rangers personnel initially took away the weapons but later handed them over to the police, explained DSP Shaukat Ali.

“They [Rangers] wanted to take the weapons to their office to hold a press conference,” he said. DSP Ali explained the Rangers are required to hand them over so the police can register a case and start investigations. “But I convinced them that they have to hand them over to the police later, in any case, so they might as well give them now.”
