PESHAWAR: At least ten militants and three security officials were killed when a check post in South Waziristan Agency came under attack, the army’s media wing said on Wednesday night.

Militants attacked the Green Ridge check post in Ladha subdivision around 8:00 pm "which was repulsed" said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement. The military claimed "inflicting heavy casualties to the militants."

The military claimed killing as many as 10 militants. The exchange of fire in the attack 'reportedly' initiated by the militants, killed three officials.

While South Waziristan has remained relatively peaceful, Ladha sub-division of the Mehsud tribes territory has seen frequent skirmishes since the launch of a military operation in 2009.

The casualty figures for either side could not be immediately independently verified.
