Giving credit where due

Letter January 06, 2014
Eighty five per cent of party tickets were given to people from the middle and upper middle class.

WALTHAM, MA, US: This is apropos Seema Mustafa’s article of January 4 “Imran and Kejriwal: new stars of the subcontinent”. Those who attended Imran Khan’s famous Lahore rally of October, 2011 know that the crowd included people from all strata of society, from garbage pickers to BMW owners. The youth, middle-aged and elderly citizens, all attended the rally.

Eighty five per cent of party tickets were given to people from the middle and upper middle class and a large number of them were young people, as Imran had promised. He does not only represent the elite. The children of the elite were the ones who did support him the most as he called on the youth, and specifically the elite youth, to come out of their comfortable homes to polling stations. He deserves more credit than he is currently given.
