Securing technology: Bill drafted to curb cybercrimes

Cybercrimes witness upward trend due to latest technological advancement.

ISLAMABAD: A draft of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill (PECB)-2013 has been prepared, aimed at addressing cyber related crimes. The information technology and telecommunications ministry has prepared the draft Bill and would soon place it before the parliament for its enactment. According to the ministry, a special unit -National Response Centre for Cyber Crimes under FIA has been established to counter cybercrimes in the country. This unit, it said, has a mandate of law enforcement, public awareness, formulation of information security policy, and assistance to other government departments, specifically pertaining to electronic crimes. Cybercrimes have witnessed an upward trend due to latest technological advancement and the response centres for cybercrimes are working vigilantly to tackle this menace. Their performance against grey trafficking has remained excellent during the current year which helped avert huge losses to national exchequer.
