Facilitating arms licences

Letter December 12, 2013
Gentleman at the window informed me my licence could not be computerised because it was not made in Sindh.

KARACHI: Recently, I happened to visit the Deputy Commissioner (South), Karachi office’s arms licence counter to convert my manual arms licence into a computerised one. After braving through the line for nearly 90 minutes, the gentleman at the window informed me that my licence could not be computerised because it has been made in a province other than Sindh. Upon meeting the in charge of the arms licence counter, it was disclosed that the counter does not have a provision (or directives from the authorities), nor does it have the means to verify arms licences from other provinces in order to convert them into computerised ones, even if the licence is an `All Pakistan’ type and has been registered in the DC (South) office and its fee has been paid for many decades in Karachi.

May I request the authorities to, first of all, make more windows in the deputy commissioner’s office for processing licences and put a sign above the windows which says that licences from outside Sindh will not be processed.

M Asif
