More fun to watch than listen

Letter December 11, 2013
The only problem was that young Bilawal somehow did not look or sound very convincing.

RAWALPINDI: The PPP observed its 47th Yaum-e-Tasees on November 30 at Bilawal House in Karachi. The speakers included the rarely-seen party patron, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who spoke about the sacrifices and achievements of Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, and wanted to convey to the people that the PPP had always challenged the status quo. The only problem was that young Bilawal somehow did not look or sound very convincing. Even seasoned leaders like Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Senator Raza Rabbani did not have much to offer except harangues and hyperbole. One wonders why our so-called leaders cannot address audiences in a more mature and sober way — the way the Quaid-e-Azam, the Quaid-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan and the great Hussain Shaheed Suharwardy and many other leaders of yore did.

They should know that in these days of electronic media, they are being constantly watched and scrutinised by the general public. Quite frankly, at present, it is more fun and amusing to watch these so-called leaders than to listen to what they are saying!!
