ISLAMABAD:

The Director General of the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant-General Zaheerul Islam met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday to discuss the missing persons case after the Supreme Court intensified pressure on defence authorites.

The meeting between the premier and ISI director general was not declared by the PM office officially, but sources informed The Express Tribune that the issue of missing persons and security situation dominated the discussion.

The ISI head briefed the prime minister about the missing persons issue, which is causing the SC to exert immense pressure on the Nawaz government.

During the meeting, the ISI director-general told the premier that security agencies never victimised any person and moreover investigated all those who have been found in ‘mischievous activities’ against the state across the country. He also said that action takes place only after detailed surveillance.

The premier was quoted by sources as saying that the government will take every possible measure to satisfy the SC to avoid any confrontation and that the missing persons case will also be dealt in accordance with the same strategy.

Earlier in the day, the new Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Rashid Mahmood held his first meeting with Nawaz.
