A week after high level appointments in the military, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with some of the top military commanders in the country in individual meetings on Thursday.

The Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam briefed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the national security situation in Pakistan.

The two talked about the prevalent national and regional security situation.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Rashad Mahmood and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila also called on the Prime Minister separately to discuss matters pertaining to national security.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has come under criticism for not taking effective security measures to prevent the Rawalpindi Incident where sectarian conflicts during the month of Ashura claimed several lives and led to a curfew being imposed in the city for a week.
