ISLAMABAD: The British Council and Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday agreed to formulate a strategy document for binding and expanding links of both countries at the higher education level. Jo Beall, director British Council, along with senior council members visited HEC and met Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, the executive director and senior staff members of the commission. Members agreed that this partnership should significantly contribute to the internationalisation of institutions and also contribute to capacity building in higher education institutions. Talking to the delegation, Ahmed said “We are encouraging our researchers to focus on research relevant to country’s social and economic needs. We want our institutions of higher learning to develop indigenous solutions for indigenous problems,” he added. Beall appreciated Pakistan’s achievements in the higher education sector. She hoped the proposed strategy document would not only identify needs of both sides but also categorise priority areas.
