KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) confirmed in a statement on Sunday that Mustafa Kamal had submitted his resignation from the Senate seat to the party but said that it had not been accepted yet, Express News reported.

The party said that the former mayor of Karachi was not in Pakistan and had notified the party leadership before leaving.

"Kamal had requested temporary time off from party duties and MQM had approved of his request," stated the Rabita Committee.

The press release refuted claims of a rift between Kamal and other members of the party and said that he had gone abroad because of personal problems.

MQM said that Kamal's efforts for the improvement of Karachi were appreciated.

"MQM chief Altaf Hussain wishes his personal problems get resolved soon so that he can return to party duties," concluded the statement.

@Khan: You, MQM phobics, call it illness, we call it passion and resoluteness. Time will tell. May you live long to see it.
