PESHAWAR/ BANNU/ JAMRUD: Three suspected militants were killed and two police officials injured in an attack on a police check-post in Hawaid area of Bannu on Wednesday.

Two policemen were injured and three militants were killed in retaliatory firing.

The injured police officials were shifted to DHQ Bannu and are reportedly in stable condition.

Narrow escape

Earlier this morning in Peshawar, an Army convoy escaped unhurt in a remote controlled road side bomb blast on Ring Road.

The convey was on its way from Hayatabad to Kohat Road. The explosion, however, occurred when the convey had passed and there was no damage or loss of life in the attack.

Pishtakhara police reached the area soon after the attack and cordoned off the entire locality. They also arrested a suspicious man who was shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) inspected the site of the explosion and said that it was a home-made low intensity device of around one kilogram.

“The target of the bomb attack was the military convey without any doubt but it escaped unhurt with the difference of just a few seconds,” said an official of a local police station.

Jamrud attack

Meanwhile, in another incident, two khasadar officials were killed in Takta Baig area of Jamrud when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off at around 8:30am.

The dead were identified as Noman and Hazar Abad.

Assistant Political Agent (APA) Jamrud subdivision, Jehangir Azam, said that unknown militants had planted the IED near the check-post which was detonated by a remote-controlled device. The APA said that militants used a mortar shell as an IED which completely destroyed the check-post.

A search operation was launched in the surrounding areas after the explosion however no one was arrested while the injured khasadar officials were shifted to Hayatabad medical Complex.

This attack on khasadar officials came a day after a roadside remote-controlled bomb blast had injured a khasadar official in Landikotal, Khyber Agency. The bomb was planted by unidentified militants near a khasadar check post in Sultankhel, which exploded at around 8am, injuring an official identified as Hussain Ahmad.

While on October 10, three khasadar officials of Khyber Agency had sustained injuries when a roadside bomb targeted their vehicle on Ring Road near Achini. Around 18 khasadar officials were in the vehicle en route from Akka Khel, Khyber Agency where they were providing security to polio vaccinators.
